Bellingham,

the heart of Cascadia

An ideal location

Halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, on the edge of coast between Cascadian Volcanoes and the Wild Pacific Ocean, Bellingham is an ideal spot from which to explore our bioregion: Cascadia.

Beautiful farmland can be found to the north and the south, making great cycling or road trip terrain. Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan loom over Bellingham to the East, luring skiers and climbers from around the world, while the San Juan islands beg for exploration to the west, floating in Puget Sound.

for adventure

12 Cedars sits just over a mile from Galbraith Mountain and its world famous mountain biking. We are up on the singletrack most days through the summer, spring and fall. That is if we aren't paddling the SUP on pristine Lake Whatcom: right out the front door.

In the winter, of course, skiers and snowboarders make the pilgrimage to Mt Baker Ski Area - the snowiest place on earth over the last couple of decades, with an average snowfall of 641 inches/year.

A free ride to the ski hill is offered on almost every day that it snows more than 9", because you can damn well be sure we're going up there for yet another powder day. that's why where HERE.

and culture.

A college town with about 90,000 people, we would argue that Bellingham is the perfect size.

Big enough that there's a vibrant arts scene, some great restaurants, and over a dozen breweries/cideries and small enough to feel like a town. The campus of Western Washington University ensures a young energy and outlook, and plenty of retirees have figured out that this little corner of the world is one of the best.

We sit less than 20 miles from the Canadian border and its plentiful Tim Horton's donuts and charming remote ski areas. Vancouver kicks ass too. Not to mention Victoria... actually basically all of Vancouver Island. Plus Canada's Gulf Islands... nearby tribal lands, and fascinating Native culture. Bellingham sits in quite an amazing spot.
